Tony Abbott has put an unprecedented request to the World Heritage Committee to axe huge swathes of Tasmanian forest from the World Heritage list.

Included in these spectacular forests are vast pockets of Leatherwood trees, many of which are more than 200 years old. The Leatherwood tree is the foundation for Tassie’s $4m honey industry - accounting for 70% of all honey produced in Tasmania.
